Caledonian Brewery
Artisan Real Estate is transforming the former Caledonian Brewery in Shandon, Edinburgh, into a sustainable residential neighbourhood. The proposals bring together new apartments and the conversion of historic brewery buildings, creating private and affordable homes on the western edge of the city centre.
Founded in 1869, the brewery was a distinctive part of Edinburgh’s industrial heritage until brewing ceased in 2022. The redevelopment will retain its characterful B-listed Victorian buildings while introducing a mix of one, two and three-bedroom apartments designed for low-carbon living.
Planning permission was granted in May 2025, and demolition of later additions is now underway as the site prepares for its next chapter. Artisan’s approach combines the reuse of existing buildings with new residential development, respecting the brewery’s history while bringing the site back into use.
